Kadına Şiddetle Mücadele Günü Gerçek Hikayesi:1930’dan 1960’lere kadar Dominik Cumhuriyeti‘ni dikdatör bir şekilde yöneten Rafael Trujillo dikdatör rejimini devam ettiriyordu.

Dominik Cumhuriyetinin bir bölgesi olan Cibas bölgesinde doğan ve Mirabal kız kardeşler olarak tanınan 3 kız kardeş Patria, Minerva ve Maria Teresa kendileri ve eşleri ile birlikte dikdatör Rafael Trujillo ile mücadele ediyordu. Kardeşlerden biri olan Patria, 1960 yılında Clandestine Hareketini kurdu ve diğer kız kardeşler de bu harekete beklemeden katıldı.

Bu hareket Trujillo ‘ya karşı olan mücadele zamanında sembol haline geldi. Onların bu hareketi, kız kardeşlerin baskı altında kalmasına ve hapis cezasına çarptırılmalarını sağladı. Trujillo; Ülkede iki tehlikenin varlığından bahsetti “Biri Kilise diğer ise Mirabal kardeşler” demişti.

1960 yılının 25 Kasım gününde Üç kardeşe tecavüz edip öldürdüler. Ancak medya tarafından “Araba Kazasında” öldüklerini duyurdular. Mirabal kız kardeşler‘in öldürülmesinden 1 yıl sonra Trujillo karşıtı hareket başarı ile sonuçlandı ve bu dikdatörlüğün sona ermesini sağladı.

Mirabal kız kardeşlerin anısı, özgürlük ve insan hakları için verdikleri mücadele, dünyada ve Türkiye’de insan hakları savunucuları ve kadın hareketleri için bir sembol haline geldi. 1999 yılında Birleşmiş Milletler, 25 Kasım‘ın “Kadına Yönelik Şiddetin Ortadan Kaldırılması için Uluslararası Mücadele Günü” olarak kabul etti.
